City Park Tomorrow

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

For multiple generations, City Park has been a special place where a rich diversity of people gather, recreate, create memories and connect with nature and others in meaningful ways. As the park has aged, it has adapted to meet changes in community needs over time. With a voter-approved and funded ballot initiative to make improvements to aging community parks, improvements to City Park are being planned.

A master plan for refreshing the park over time has been finalized based on significant input over the past four years from the community, City Council and the Parks & Recreation Board. Using existing funds, a Phase 1 construction project will include a new main restroom and sidewalk improvements. Future improvements, as illustrated in the master plan, may occur in multiple phases and when additional funds become available.

The City Park train might be reaching the end of the line.

Fort Collins officials continue to struggle with re-establishing a miniature train in the historic park nearly a decade after the train was shut down over safety concerns. Before its closure in 2010, a children’s train operated in the park for 60 years.
