The economic health of a community impacts income, education, employment, community safety, quality of life, and social support. A strong, healthy economy means community members have better access, choices and opportunities. Those are essential to our community’s social, environmental, and economic well-being.
We know that virtually all Fort Collins businesses, big and small, were impacted by the pandemic in some way. Businesses continue to navigate a complex economy of supply chain delays and shortages, inflation, and employee changes.
The economy is changing and we need to as well. We're updating the City's Economic Health Strategic Plan to reflect these changes and we're interested in hearing from you: community members, employees, and business leaders.
This update aims to:
Update the 2015 plan to be better positioned to support businesses through recovery and resiliency
Include the guiding principles of livability, sustainability, community, and adaption
Factor in the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) or environmental, social, and economic factors
Support businesses to enable a healthy, equitable, and resilient economy and community
Start with equity–people-focused strategies that support underrepresented and underserved individuals and business owners
Focus on four areas:
Business Retention and Expansion - helping businesses stay and grow in Fort Collins
Small Business - supporting our "main street" businesses with less than 50 employees
Talent and Workforce - ensuring businesses have good talent, while community members have access to good jobs
Innovation and Circular Economy - leveraging local research and development from bioscience & clean tech sectors, Colorado State University, and others regionally
