Outdoor Residential Wood Burning

On March 19, 2019 Fort Collins City Council adopted new rules to limit nuisance smoke from outdoor wood fires. These include:

  • Wood fires must be at least 15 feet from a property line
  • Wood fires must be extinguished by 10:00 pm

These new restrictions do not apply to gas fire pits or fireplaces, or to BBQs or smokers, but all fires must follow safety specifications required by the fire code. Additionally, air pollution nuisance rules prohibit smoke that impacts health, safety or comfortable enjoyment of property. More information is available here.

The City is currently evaluating the first year of implementation, and we are interested in hearing about your thoughts and experiences. Please use the Feedback Form below.
