More land for natural areas - please stop building every square inch of land
CLIMATE CHANGE - It threatens every single part of our cities budget. Promises do nothing - take action. Ex; plastic bag bag is a GREAT move.
U+2. It's discriminatory against non nuclear families and cultures and makes affordable housing hard to find.
Get rid of U+2. I’m not going to go through all of reasons that have already been listed, but this law makes it harder for students and young adults to find affordable housing. I’ve never been to another college town that has a rule in place similar to U+2. Four unrelated people either living together for school, or as young adults simply trying to save money on rent isn’t unheard of.
Helping to establish more humane wildlife rescue, wildlife education, and wildlife rehabilitation services to animals and community members.
Systems in place that hurt our lower socioeconomic families and the homeless population. Many of these systems come from an inherently racist/classist background. Be on the forefront of change we wish to see in our country.
Abolish U+2, it obviously targets college students/young adults and greatly restricts affordable housing options. It’s overreach on the cities part, landlords have the right to rent their home to however many individuals they see fit. It’s absurd that an expensive apartment complex gets to house 4-5 students per unit and profit off of us, but a home with 4 bedrooms can’t be rented to 4 people. Fort Collins is a college town no matter what unjust rules the city puts in place, students deserve reasonable housing options, it’s very disheartening to have the city we call home actively make our lives more difficult (as well as the lives of landlords trying to rent out their homes)
A fundamental issue we need to get a handle on is our air quality because of it's impact on everyone's health. Lately I have been getting Air Quality Health Advisories from colorado.airquality for Larimer County several times a week. Please fund Regional Air Quality Monitoring.
Get rid of U+2.
The city policy of U+2 as it has harmed more people than helped.
The city policy of U+2 as it currently stands is a detriment to all associated parties that must contend with it. It is not uncommon to see individuals who are either from low income backgrounds, are students, or both, being forced to split the rent of a 5 bedroom home amongst 3 people or be forced to pay exorbitant rates to live in a corporate apartment complex that offers minimal benefits in return. Should the U+2 policy be restructured with the interests of the low-income renter as the focus, the benefits will be sweeping. Homeowners will be able to more easily manage their tenants and mortgages without fear of being fined for violating U+2 by renting to more than 3 unrelated people. Students will be relieved of a significant financial burden that, in many cases, is distracting them from their studies. Corporate complexes will even see benefits as they are forced to price their rates more competitively which would open their units up to a much wider market, leading to more units being occupied consistently. Given the rapid changes this city has experienced in recent years, antiquated legislation such as U+2 is long overdue for revision.
Regional Air Quality Monitoring like that now being used in Boulder, Longmont and Broomfield. While affordable housing and improved public transportation also come high on my list, accurately measuring and identifying sources of air pollution so that we can then take steps to improve our air quality is one thing that would benefit every single individual living in Fort Collins.
Abolish U+2
For public health and safety, Ft Collins needs accurate and reliable methane monitoring. The oil and gas industry has been polluting local air at levels far worse than regulations allow. Please consider funding, or seeking the funding, for continuous air quality monitoring, using Boulder AIR technology (bouldair.com). Boulder, Longmont and Broomfield have this; if they can do it, we can do it. It is badly needed to fill the gap in regulatory enforcement where the CDPHE has failed us. Thanks!
Abolish U+2 and work towards the city helping to provide more equitable housing. U+2 makes the housing crisis even worse than it already is and it targets marginalized groups within the community. You cannot be an equitable city and have an office of equity while still upholding U+2
Abolish U+2 to enable more affordable housing and be more inclusive of non-nuclear families or communal living situations. Use rental licensing or some other method of protecting college student housing.
Traffic operations and the timing of stop lights. There is no reason that you should be stopped by a traffic light that feeds a parking lot and then stopped again at the next street. Most traffic lights do not serve streets that have additional traffic lights on them to make timing difficult to sync the the adjacent lights but they are not synced. This would reduce congestion, improve air quality do to idling at traffic lights and reduce overall stress of drivers. This would also improve the safety of drives because there would be less desire to run red lights trying to beat the timing of the lights.
Air quality monitoring is paramount as our unique evaporative climate locks in particles in developing North Fort Collins that may not be visible in other parts of Larimer County. I have offered to house equipment on my farm and maintain it; allowing technicians here to update or smart meter it as needed. I would also be willing to oversee a public land installation and assist with its upkeep as needed. My asthma has gotten worse and even my livestock are reacting to air and soil contaminants this year worse than any other year. Thanks, Meghan Bright (sustainability researcher and engaged 11-year resident)
City-wide composting!
Keep and improve FC as a safe and inclusive community by providing reliable and accessible programs for kids in low income families, translations and translator services (especially Spanish), and ensuring that people experiencing homelessness have access to safe spaces and programs to help them get back on their feet. I'd also like to see resources dedicated to strategic. long-term planning to manage water resources given the extent of new construction.
