For multiple generations, City Park has been a special place where a rich diversity of people gather, recreate, create memories, and connect with nature and others in meaningful ways. As the park has aged, it has adapted to meet changes in community needs over time. A voter-approved and funded ballot initiative to make improvements to aging community parks allows for improvements to City Park to be made.

A master plan for refreshing the park over time was developed based on significant input over the past four years from the community, City Council, and the Parks & Recreation Board. Using existing funds, the City Park Restroom project will include a new main restroom and sidewalk improvements. The City Park Restroom is the only improvement currently funded at City Park.

The City Park Restroom project will provide a new year-round restroom along with surrounding site improvements. Improvements include:

    • Tree preservation and protection (no trees will be removed)
    • Demolition of the existing main restroom
    • Demolition of 1 picnic shelter
    • Construction of a new main restroom

The construction area will be securely fenced off, just south of the Pottery Studio and north of the large playground. The segment of South Bryan Avenue between West Oak and City Park Drive will be closed periodically for short durations due to construction activities. The majority of City Park will remain open for public use during construction.

The anticipated construction duration is early September through the end of the year. Landscape plantings may be delayed until the spring of 2021, depending on weather conditions.

Future improvements, as illustrated in the master plan, may occur in multiple phases and when additional funds become available.
