Engagement on City Park Tomorrow has concluded. For more information on City Park projects, visit fcgov.com/parkplanning/cityparktomorrow.

For multiple generations, City Park has been a special place where a rich diversity of people gather, recreate, create memories, and connect with nature and others in meaningful ways. As the park has aged, it has adapted to meet changes in community needs over time. A voter-approved and funded ballot initiative to make improvements to aging community parks allows for improvements to City Park to be made.

A master plan for refreshing the park over time was developed based on significant input over the past four years from the community, City Council, and the Parks & Recreation Board. Using existing funds, the City Park Restroom project will include a new main restroom and sidewalk improvements. The City Park Restroom is the only improvement currently funded at City Park.

    A Place to Play Together

“I love the idea of City Park as the place where Fort Collins plays together. In the summer, especially, I love there are baseball games, barbecues, picnickers, runners, and Tai Chi groups all sharing the space in our city together. It is also such a historical place in our city – with the trolley route and the lake, I hope that the future of the park can honor the past, while ushering in future use potential. I hope the park redesign remains accessible and safe for families, athletes, and people of all ages and abilities.”

    A Big Backyard

“City Park is Fort Collins' shared backyard and it’s a place where we can all come together for recreation, food trucks, swimming, fishing, or just to relax under the decades old canopy of a cottonwood tree. City Park is as important to me as is Old Town or the Poudre Canyon to Fort Collins’ identify and one of the reasons I love living here.”

    A City Landmark

“In my opinion, it is the most unique park our town has to offer. People feel connected to it. It is where people gather for fireworks, it has huge lawns where people can play, it has toddler and a young child playground, etc. It is a landmark in Fort Collins. I personally have so many beautiful memories there with my family and friends. Parks are an extremely important part of a community. Studies show that parks literally make a town healthier by reducing air pollution. They also have shown to reduce levels of stress and increase overall happiness for people.”

    Community Gathering Place

“It’s a place where families and friends of all races and cultures can get together for social events and gatherings; unencumbered by too many restrictions and constructions. I like that it is a playground in general, with open spaces and open views, where many different activities can take place at the same time that involve children and adults, and that it is possible to view across the park and see what is going on.”

    A Sanctuary for All

“It’s a spot for individual sanctuary and contemplation in a hectic world while also serving as a community gathering place for celebrations and recreation. Done properly it affords young families time to enjoy the beauty of exercise, fresh air, and each other. Older populations can profit from the beauty of the lake and walking paths. Community events bring all of us together in common celebrations and enjoyment of being a member of a most wonderful city. City Park is truly a centerpiece of pride for our city and deserves our best efforts to continue to be and to improve upon... Continue reading
