Analia.Weberabout 5 years agoOn the Carnegie Center: Great opportunity to have a black box performance space within a building that can serve the local makers and Foco.
It can serve as: performance space, education center for grants etc, research and collaboration within the science and artistic community, a place for ideas to percolate and grow, ability to house residencies and so many other things.

What does Fort Collins arts and culture look like?
over 5 years agoCLOSED: This brainstormer has concluded.Because culture in a community is a collaborative process, we want to hear from you about the draft plan overview. Please answer one of the questions below (You can also vote for ideas that are submitted by others.)
What does it look like to have more access to arts in my neighborhood?
What does it mean to have access to "world-class arts and performances"?
Write your version of an arts and culture tagline for Fort Collins?
joover 5 years agoEthnic festivals/Street fairs
Literally, in the streets of different neighborhoods with music, dancing, food, etc.

Fort Collins to be a city of "firsts" in the arts, let it be international. Dance, music, theater, visual art that invites others into our community.
1 comment2Kit Bakerover 5 years agoProvide support for attending arts and culture conferences
Our artists and cultural entrepreneurs need to have access to the latest ideas and developments in order to play their full part in contributing to a thriving arts and culture scene in Fort Collins. Yet few can afford to cover the necessary travel, accommodation and fees. Fort Collins should launch a travel fund that can expand city-wide access to the trends and business practices that are equal to improving the health and fuel the growth of our sector.
0 comment2PhilDonaldsonover 5 years agoTranscend "World Class"
Certainly to some, the term "world class" can refer to professionalism, polish, perfection. To others, the 20th century notion of "world class" could carry with it a sense of elitism or exclusivity. What if we try to transcend the term and just shoot for something with a sense of being seasoned, intentional, collaborative and relevant? Fort Collins creative culture is in a state of becoming. Its 21st century identity as a town of multiple cultures has yet to coalesce. We're just at the beginning. We need to address and nurture that. Who are we? What do we stand for? What do we believe? What boundaries are we exceeding? Let's leave room for exploration and discovery of our collective identity. Make allowances for 21st century change. When Fort Collins finds itself, we can then begin to have an impact upon the world at large. We can take our place as relevant citizens of the world. That would be a great discussion to have. If we try to define ourselves right now, we run the risk of becoming an anachronism. If we pat ourselves on the back for simply having people of different cultures perform in a production of "The Magic Flute," we've missed the mark.

Each neighborhood area utilizes a local park/space for pop-up art festivities: performance: street theatre, music, open mic, craft fair, poetry slam, etc.

What topics should FoCo Creates address?
over 6 years agoA cultural plan is a chance for our community to create a vision for the future in Fort Collins. Because culture in a community is a collaborative process, we want to hear from you! Tell us what you would like to see addressed. You can also vote for ideas that are submitted by others.
Bruce Freestoneover 6 years agoRestore and Expand the Ft. Collins Trolly System.
The idea here is to recreate an "Attraction". I don't think buses or rubber wheeled trollys have the same cachet. The trolly cars would need to be solid, authentic recreations and run on tracks with frequent (if not free) stops. Research the original track layout which included the old Fort Collins High School and Richard's Lake. Expansion could be to the north and east to include the River District and new developments.
5Kit Bakeralmost 6 years agoArtist Studio Residencies in Donated Spaces
There are a lot of vacant properties in Fort Collins - for example, shopfronts - and a lot of artists who need affordable studio space. The City of Fort Collins could solve both problems by brokering residencies for artists in donated business properties. Organizations like the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) have been organizing such residencies successfully for years (bit.ly/2lhWySn). These not only have the potential to bring greater cultural vibrancy to Fort Collins, but to transform an artist's career.

The GVM's location at 200 W. Mountain ensures positive use of city-owned space. This unique cultural asset needs a long-term lease at non-profit rates.
4trblmkrover 6 years agoOrganized volunteer effort to encourage the private sector to fund arts & culture.
If we're going to use city funds to increase funding for arts & culture in Fort Collins, we should put the funding towards an organized effort to raise money from the private sector.
3schneider.andrewover 6 years agoFund year round incubation and acceleration activities for arts, culture and creative industries.
Call it risk capital if you like... but given the returns we are getting on our existing arts investments, I think we can confidently reinvest in this way.
