What is Our Climate Future?

Our Climate Future (OCF) is a comprehensive plan to simultaneously address climate, energy and waste goals while improving our community’s equity and resilience. OCF articulates an unwavering commitment to mitigating and adapting to climate change with a people-first systems-approach.

OCF implementation intensifies our community efforts to achieve these goals:

  • Reduce 2030 greenhouse gas emissions by 80% below 2005 baseline levels;

  • Provide 100% renewable electricity by 2030 with grid and local sources; and

  • Achieve zero waste, or 100% landfill diversion, by 2030.

You can explore OCF documents in the library to the right. The OCF Two-Year Tactical Plan highlights the specific strategies for action for 2021 and 2022. The OCF Big and Next Moves Guide summarizes the strategies and tactics which align with our community sustainability priorities and the 2030 goals.     We asked our community to imagine a sustainable future and what might keep us from getting there. 

    Then, we read through every community member's response and created a draft set of themes in two categories to summarize what we think we heard:

    Community Priorities for achieving Our Climate Future: this is what City Staff think they heard the community say should be top priorities for creating a more sustainable Fort Collins.

    Big Barriers to achieving Our Climate Future: this is what City Staff think they heard the community say are the large barriers to creating a more sustainable Fort Collins.

    Then, City Staff looked at the Priorities and the Barriers to create...

    Core Principles for developing and screening strategies to achieve Our Climate Future: City Staff looked at the Community Priorities and Big Barriers and then created a set of Core Principles framed as questions to both design and evaluate the strategies identified in the Our Climate Future planning process.
