On December 8, City staff shared progress on the Housing Strategic Plan with City Council at a work session. The purpose of the work session was to summarize fall community engagement, share draft strategies and tools for strategy evaluation, and update Council on the work of the Ad Hoc Housing Committee. Staff also asked Council for support to consider funding the first phase of updating the City’s Land Use Code

You can review all the materials presented to Council here, or watch the recording (the Housing Strategic Plan update starts around 4 hours, 11 minutes in). Councilmembers were supportive of the progress made on the Housing Strategic Plan and deeply appreciated the time and effort residents have invested in workshops, meetings, and discussions over the last several months. Councilmembers recognized that the housing needs in our community are urgent and require both planning for the future and strategic action now.

We will be returning to Council for one more work session on January 26, where the focus will be on prioritizing strategies and finalizing the Housing Strategic Plan. We expect to bring the Housing Strategic Plan to Council for consideration of adoption in February 2021, and to bring forward a formal request for funding land use code changes in the first quarter of 2021 as well.
